Dodgers trade Matt Kemp to Padres

The Los Angeles Dodgers traded outfielder Matt Kemp to the San Diego Padres on Thursday. The move comes one day after the Dodgers got Jimmy Rollins from the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Dodgers aren’t just sending Kemp to the Padres. They are also sending catcher Tim Federowicz to the Padres. The Padres will send catcher Yasmani Grandal, pitcher Joe Wieland, and right-hander Zach Eflin to the Dodgers. The Dodgers will also be giving the Padres $32 million to cover the rest of Kemp’s $107 million salary, according to ESPN.

"We obviously traded away some very good players tonight,'' Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said.”But we feel with the totality of the moves ourselves, we made ourselves a better team.''

Kemp had missed 145 games from 2012 to 2103 due to injuries. However he came back this year with a good season. He hit .287 and had 25 homeruns and 89 RBIS this past season, according to USA Today. His best season was in 2011 when he hit .324 and had 39 homeruns, 126 RBIs, 40 stolen bases and finished second in voting for the National League MVP.

The Dodgers have made ten trades since October 14. They made three trades on Wednesday alone. They have also claimed two players off of waivers and signed one free agent. In addition to Rollins the Dodgers also acquired second baseman Howie Kendrick, infielder Enrique Hernandez, reliever Chris Hatcher, and minor leaguer Austin Barnes on Wednesday. The Dodgers have also signed pitcher Brandon McCarthy to a four-year deal.
