Vancouver Canucks forward Jannik Hansen collapsed on the bench during Saturday’s game against the Calgary Flames.
The collapse happened during the second period of Saturday’s game. Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman lowered his shoulder to do a body check and hit Hansen in the corner of the Flames zone. Hansen skated to the bench after the hit and appeared to be winded. Shortly after getting to the bench and sitting Hansen collapsed and his teammates asked for medical attention. The Canucks doctor attended to Hansen then he walked to the dressing room on his own and then was taken to the hospital, according to the Associated Press.
"I think everything's good," Canucks coach Willie Desjardins said. "He was at the hospital. Everything's checking out, though, and I don't think there's going to a problem. Everything looks real good."
He went on to add, "It's concerning [in the moment].It seemed he couldn't get his breath there. He got hit and he couldn't breathe and went down. So whenever that happens, that's not usual. But everything checked out at the hospital. Everything's fine."
Hansen didn’t return to the game as a precaution. He has eight goals and five assists for 13 points this season, according to Sports Illustrated.
The Canucks won the game, 3-2, in overtime.
