Trailer Park- 11/7 Edition: ‘Interstellar’ and ‘Big Hero 6’ aim for the top of the box office

A variety of films are making their way into theaters this weekend, ranging from a documentary, history based film to horror and even a Christmas comedy. Matthew McConaughey stars in a film that travels through space and time.

With food running low on Earth, a group of explorers head into space with hopes of finding a new place humans can call home in Interstellar. By participating in this mission, they not only put their lives on the line but also miss out on many things back home. For every hour they spend in the wormhole on their way to another galaxy, seven years passes on Earth. The PG-13 dramatic adventure is directed and co-written by The Dark Knight’s Christopher Nolan and stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine and Casey Affeck. The two hour and forty-nine minute film is playing in conventional and IMAX theaters.

When his city is threatened by an evil villain, a young boy and his robot recruit friends to try to save it in Big Hero 6. The group of friends uses high tech devices to find out who’s causing the trouble and put a stop to it. The PG animated adventure is playing in conventional and 3D theaters for one hour and forty-eight minutes.

The late Robin Williams stars in the dysfunctional family holiday film A Merry Friggin Christmas. In the one hour and twenty-eight minute comedy, a man begrudgingly travels to his parents’ house for Christmas and then realizes that he forgot his son’s gifts at home. He sets out on an eight hour road trip with his father and brother to Chicago and back before his son wakes up on Christmas morning without any gifts. The limited released PG-13 film co-stars Joel McHale, Clark Duke, Lauren Graham, Jeffrey Tambor, Oliver Platt and Candace Bergen.

An widower’s life is revitalized when he falls for a fiery woman in Elsa & Fred. When he finds out that she is terminally ill, he takes her to Italy to make her dream come true of reenacting her favorite scene from the film La Dolce Vita. The PG-13 comedy stars Shirley MacLaine, Christopher Plummer, James Brolin and Marcia Gay Harden. It’s playing in limited theaters for one hour and forty-four minutes.

Following a terrible car accident, a young woman returns to her Louisiana home and his haunted by evil spirits in Jessabelle. The supernatural force has been waiting for her to return and is now tormenting her and won’t let her go. The PG-13 horror film is running in limited theaters for one hour and thirty minutes.

The often untold story of Abraham Lincoln’s childhood is shown in The Better Angels. The limited released biopic shows three years of his life that had a major impact on the man he became. The PG, one hour and thirty-four minute drama stars Diane Kruger, Jason Clarke, Brit Marling and Wes Bentley.

Get a look at the man behind many idie cult classic films such as Dazed and Confused, Slacker, School of Rock and Before Sunrise with 21 Years: Richard Linklater . Writer/Director Richard Linklater has been in the film industry for over two decades. The one hour and eighteen minute documentary showcases his skills and impact on pop culture. It features commentary by those that have worked closely with him over the years, Matthew McConaughey, Keanu Reeves, Ethan Hawke, Kevin Smith, Zack Efron, Billy Bob Thorton and Jack Black. The unrated film is available in limited theaters.
