Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo team up for the first time to present 'The Game Awards'

For the first time ever, the three leaders of the video game industry are collaborating to bring a new awards show called The Game Awards to celebrate the best video games of the year.

The Game Awards will be produced by Geoff Keighley from Gametrailers TV and will be live streamed and distributed across all video game consoles via Playstation Network, Xbox Live, and the Nintendo Store.

“The ‘Game Awards 2014′ will celebrate our collective love of games and the passion we all hold in our hearts for this incredible entertainment medium,” Keighley said according to Variety. “Gaming has never been stronger, and this year we will celebrate the fastest-selling launch year ever for new game consoles, the dramatic rise of eSports and mobile gaming around the globe, and preview the games that will make 2015 the biggest year yet.”

Keighley has also garnered the support of many other industry titans including Reggie Fils-Aime from Nintendo and Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear Solid solid franchise, to name a few.

A previous video game award show also previously produced by Keighley, VGX has been hosted on Spike TV for nearly a decade but fans have steadily lost interest. With the new awards show, Keighley hopes to renew interest in a gaming awards show.

According to the Entertainment Software Association, video games are a $21.5 billion industry as of 2013.

The Game Awards event premieres in Las Vegas on December 5.
