Rapper Nicki Minaj loves women who take control of their and lead the way in their careers, which would likely explain why she admires Beyoncé and remains “heavily involved” in her own career.
"Some women give me the feeling that where there's a will, there's a way," Minaj said in an interview with Billboard.
Beyoncé appears to one of those women the “Anaconda” rapper is referring to. “There's something about her work ethic that always made me feel like no matter how hard stuff gets, I'm not allowed to complain,” Minaj said in regards to Beyoncé, who she collaborated with on the “Flawless” remix.
When it comes to her own work ethic, Minaj, 31, takes a hands-on approach, Daily News reports.
"People don't know how heavily involved I am in my own career," Minaj added. "I'm on 15 to 25 conference calls every few days strategizing with my team. I think a lot of artists sit back and have it done for them. Sometimes as women in the industry — if you're sexy or like doing sexy things — some people subconsciously negate your brain. They think you're stupid."
Minaj added that she doesn’t agree with rappers who feel like they no longer have to prove themselves once they’ve become successful. "It's corny when rappers feel like they've made it and they don't have to prove themselves anymore."
When it comes to competition Minaj believes, "you should always be competing. You should always be trying to show that you're the best. My album is going to be important to hip-hop."
Minaj is set to release her third album, “The Pinkprint,” Dec. 15.
