While these days, writer/director David O. Russell is best known for films like The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, there was one he made before these that never saw the light of day: Nailed, starring Jessica Biel and Jake Gyllehaal, with Biel having a nail in her head as the central plot struggle.
Russell never got to finish the movie, despite only having one scene left to shoot. But it turns out that the movie may be getting a release anyway, at least, in the United Kingdom.
Screen Daily reveals that UK distributor Arrow Films plans on releasing Russell's unfinished film in England, under the new title Politics of Love. While Russell never overlooked the final film, producer Kia Jam put together a cut of the film, coming into U.K. theaters in 2015.
Voltage Pictures will be screening footage of Politics of Love at the American Film Market today, in hopes of finding potential stateside buyers. Considering that the final cut is without Russell's input, who disowned the movie after being kicked off the picture after many, many ups-and-downs during its 2008 shoot— production was shut down a shocking 14 times, it's hard to call this Russell's film necessarily. But don't be surprised if producers throw his name heavily into promotional materials to get the flick to sell.
Also starring James Marsden, Tracy Morgan, James Brolin and Paul Reubens, Politics of Love follows, as a new synopsis describes, the plight of a small-town waitress (Biel) who goes on a journey to Washington, D.C. to fight the cause of his disability with a bumbling congressman (Gyllenhaal) after getting a nail lodged into her head during her boyfriend's wedding proposal.
Whether or not Nailed/Politics of Love finds its ways into theaters, Russell is likely not too worried. He already has Joy with Jennifer Lawrence in pre-production for a Christmas 2015 release, and signed a deal for two additional films with his American Hustle producer Megan Ellison.
