Jerry Seinfeld tells Brian Williams 'I think I'm on the autism spectrum'

Despite being the co-creator and namesake to one of the most socially relevant sitcoms of our times, turns out comedian Jerry Seinfeld may not be as socially adverse as he lets on.

As The Hollywood Reporter revealed, when Seinfeld sat down with NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams to discuss the comedy business and his popular web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, the creator of the show about nothing, a.k.a. the little things in life and social oddities, opened up on how he believes he may actually be on the autism spectrum.

"You know, (I'm) never paying attention to the right things," Seinfeld confessed to Williams. "Basic social engagement is really a struggle. I'm very literal. When people talk to me and they use expressions, sometimes I don't know what they're saying. But I don't see it as dysfunctional. I just think of it as an alternate mindset."

The 60-year-old comedian, having recently discovered autism spectrum disorder — a mild form of autism — started seeing patterns to his own struggles and miscommunications. Even getting near senior citizenship, the comedian still finds himself figuring out his own identity.

In addition to this, Williams talked to Jerry about his continued presence in the stand-up comedy world, which he prides himself in despite being a millionaire and a family man. When asked why he still does it, he simply responded: "I know that that's the healthiest thing I can do."

This isn't the first time Seinfeld has opened up about his comedy and his personality, as he spoke to The New York Times a couple years ago about his joke writing process and his striving interest in the comedy world. Even with the social pressures he apparently has, Seinfeld continues to persist into his observant off-brand of comedy. He takes his comedy seriously.
