Stephen Merchant's show Hello Ladies wasn't too successful last year, and seemed to have a short shelf life in it's future. Now though, HBO is giving Merchant a chance to wrap things up with an upcoming TV movie.
According to IndieWire, Hello Ladies: The Movie will air on HBO on November 22nd.
According to the press release, the movie will follow Stuart (Stephen Merchant) as he attempts to impress his ex-girlfriend when she visits Los Angeles with her husband. He does this by enlisting a Russian model to play the role of his new girlfriend.
Hello Ladies premiered on HBO in September of 2013. A lot of critics and fans enjoyed the show, but the ratings didn't really reflect that. The series premiered with 463,000 viewers and dropped throughout its season, so HBO decided not to give the show a second season, as we previously reported. What would have then been the show's last episode aired last November.
The show was created by Stephen Merchant, who has previously collaborated with Ricky Gervais on shows such as The Office, Extras, The Ricky Gervais Show and An Idiot Abroad.
It's interesting that of all the HBO shows that have been cancelled, Hello Ladies is the one that is given a movie to wrap it up. The network has previously cancelled shows like Deadwood and Rome without them having the opportunity to wrap things up, but these shows are obviously far more expensive than Hello Ladies.
But it goes to show that nowadays, as we previously discussed, coming back from cancellation isn't all that rare anymore, even if it's just for one last TV special.
