Disney, Pixar announce 'Toy Story 4,' John Lasseter to direct

Despite three perfect films and an incredible ending, Buzz Lightyear and Woody will be back on the big screen in a new feature-length adventure.

Disney CEO Bob Iger announced on Thursday that a fourth Toy Story film is in the works. John Lasseter, who directed the original 1995 film, which was the first computer-animated feature film in Hollywood history, will be back in the director’s chair.

No other information about the project was immediately available. The announcement did come as Disney announced its impressive earnings during the fourth fiscal quarter of 2014. The media conglomerate said that its net income jumped 22 percent to $7.5 billion and saw overall revenue for the year jump 8 percent to $48.8 billion.

Lee Unkrich’s acclaimed Toy Story 3 is currently the second-highest grossing animated film of all time, earning $1.06 billion worldwide. While the film had the perfect ending for the story, clearly the idea of another billion-dollar movie was too good for Disney to pass up.

All three films featured the voices of Tim Allen and Tom Hanks, who also returned for the ABC special Toy Story of Terror last year.

Pixar is currently developing Finding Dory, a sequel to Finding Nemo, and a sequel to The Incredibles. A third Cars movie that no one needs is also in the works.

However, the studio’s next film will at least be an original project. Inside Out is due in June 2015.
