Creator Aaron Sorkin talks final season of 'The Newsroom'

The last season of The Newsroom is about to premiere on HBO and creator Aaron Sorkin talked about some of the things we can expect to see in the final episodes.

The Newsroom follows the story of news anchor personality Will McAvoy, played by Jeff Daniels, as he struggles with telling honest, thought provoking news versus earning profit for the news company. Sorkin opened up to Variety about the ending and if McAvoy's team's pursuit of higher journalism has all been for naught.

"Neither side is going to win. But there is what I think the only appropriate resolution. There was a lot of debate in the writer's room that if we are telling the truth, shouldn't the series end that you have to be pragmatic and you can't be idealistic and romantic? I thought that was a terrible way to end it since we have been saying the opposite all along, but we do need to come back to reality somehow. I think it ends with just the right message."

The series is known for covering real life hard breaking news stories and realistically placing them in the hands of the fictional Will McAvoy to show the difficulties that the media might have faced with these stories. Some of the few historical events that have been covered on the show include the death of Osama bin Laden and the Occupy Wall Street protests. The third and final season of The Newsroom will feature the Boston Marathon bombings.

With the conclusion of The Newsroom, Sorkin might be retiring from television.

"I know the whole 'never say never' stuff, but I'm pretty certain I'm about to write my last three episodes of television," Sorkin said while The Newsroom was wrapping production, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Catch Jeff Daniels in the final season of The Newsroom when it premieres on HBO November 9.
