Benedict Cumberbatch poses as Mr. Darcy for good cause, recreates iconic lake scene

Benedict Cumberbatch hasn’t played Mr. Darcy, but some female fans are going to want that rectified as soon as possible after seeing this new photo.

Cumberbatch posed as the Pride and Prejudice character to recreate the iconic scene Colin Firth performed in the BBC TV adaptation of the Jane Austen novel. The black and white image, posted on Twitter by Dudas Communications, was all for a good cause.

The photo is part of the Give Up Clothes campaign, which is sponsored by the U.K.’s TK Maxx and Cancer Research U.K. They are celebrating the campaign’s 10th anniversary and, in that time, they have raised £17.7 million ($28.9 million) for cancer research, with the majority of that dedicated to researching children’s cancers.

As Metro notes, the Sherlock star isn’t the only celebrity who posed for photographer Jason Bell and the campaign. Liam Neeson, Elijah Wood, Kate Winslet, Cynthia Nixon, Hugh Bonneville and Bruno Tonioli.

Bell’s work will be on display in London through Saturday.

Cumberbatch will be seen - with clothes - in The Imitation Game this fall. The film got rave reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival.
