Hardcore gamers can sometimes be thought of as lazy or antisocial but funny man Will Ferrell is fronting a new campaign called "Will Ferrell's SuperMegaBlastMix Gamer Challenge" that will help change that perception.
"How would you like to join me for a delightful evening of playing video games together? The only appropriate answer is YES," Ferrell tells gamers on the Indiegogo campaign website.
As humorous as the title of the campaign is, the topic itself is exceptionally serious. The goal of the campaign is to raise $375,000 for charities that help children battling cancer.
The two charities backing the campaign are DonateGames and Cancer for College.
DonateGames was created by Jim Carol after his son was diagnosed with leukemia at age 11. Carol's son survived and Carol thinks that video games helped his son keep his mind on other things while he was stuck in the hospital.
"He had a long battle. About 5 years. He had to fight for his life. At the end of the day, we're here to change the game of cancer forever for these kids," Carol told
IGN in an interview.
Donating a certain amount to the campaign qualifies you to receive cool items such as "Will Ferrell's SuperMegaUVBlastMax Gamer's Sunscreen," as well as an entry to win the grand prize.
The lucky grand prize winner will receive an all expenses paid trip to San Francisco in October to play video games with Mr. Ron Burgandy himself, Will Ferrell. The event will be broadcast live on the video game streaming website Twitch.
