Warner Bros. sets summer 2016 release date for Ryan Gosling's 'The Nice Guys'

Warner Bros. announced on Tuesday that the upcoming Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe flick The Nice Guys will be hitting theaters summer 2016.

The detective film, with Shane Black on board directing, is scheduled for a June 17, 2016 theatrical release, Deadline reports. For the moment, the film is set to go up against Pixar's Finding Dory and DreamWorks Animation's How To Train Your Dragon 3.

The Nice Guys stars Gosling as a struggling private detective and Crowe's muscle-for-hire in 1970s Los Angeles. The two team up to investigate both the death of a porn star and a missing girl. While working on the seemingly unrelated cases, the two stumble upon a conspiracy.

The project was reported on back in early July when Warner Bros. first picked up the rights to the film.

Black co-wrote the script with Anthony Bagarozzi and the pair were originally eyeing bringing the idea to television, but opted for film when it didn't work out.

Joel Silver will produce The Nice Guys under his Silver Pictures Banner, along with Waypoint Entertainment's Ken Kao. Micheal Malone and Hal Sadoff will executive produce.
