Comedian and actress Joan Rivers has recently passed away, and many who adored her work have taken to Twitter to pay their respects. Rivers was widely popular in television, hosting E!'s Fashion Police and appearing in a reality series with her daughter, Melissa Rivers entitled Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?. She was best known for her sassy one-liners and poking fun at celebrities in the media including herself.
Born in 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, Rivers rose to fame in 1965 when she appeared as a guest on The Tonight Show. She acknowledged Johnny Carson as a mentor, especially when he allowed her to be a permanent guest host on the show for three years, according to her official website. Rivers went on to host her own late night talk show and provide red carpet coverage for several events.
In addition to her television work, Rivers wrote and published several books with the latest being released in July 2014 entitled Diary of a Mad Diva. She appeared on the New York Times Bestsellers List with her new release and other titles.
As news of her passing spread, many television hosts, celebrities, and fans of her work took to Twitter to reminisce about the late host, who passed away at age 81. Many were influenced by her work and comedic style including those who collaborated with her.
