It has been a very good summer for the TNT network.
The channel came out on top snagging the distinction of the No. 1 primetime network with six of its shows being in the top ten most viewed shows. According to a press release from Turner.com, TNT's newest show The Last Ship drew in approximately 14.4 million viewers, while staples Major Crimes and Rizzoli and Isles garnered 13.6 and 12.6 million respectively.
These numbers showed multi platform viewership, which meant that these audiences were gained through live viewing, DVR, Video on Demand (VOD) and digital on-demand. TNT also had four of the top five most viewed basic cable programs for the 25-54 age group. The Last Ship took the top spot on that list. In total, TNT aired 10 scripted series for the summer block with seven of those being returning series. "This has truly be a summer to remember for TNT," said Michael Wright, president and director of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies.
"We are extremely proud of this victory, which reflects TNT's re-energized brand and demonstrates the power of TNT's originals series," Wright said.
According to Variety, USA Network still holds the top spot among key demographics, with TBS and TNT following close behind. This summer was also the summer of reality television with A&E's Duck Dynasty and VH1's Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta coming in as the top two summer cable programs for the 18-49 age demographic.
