Rachel McAdams' name is the latest to be tied to the highly-anticipated second season of HBO's True Detective.
Rumors have continued to swirl over potential casting for the sophomore season, which has not been helped by relative radio silence from anyone officially involved.
The Notebook actress' name was casually dropped by Variety on Friday, noting that sources have said she is in the running for the fourth lead role, which would pit her against Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss for the role.
No casting has been confirmed for any of the lead roles, but many assume by this point that it is a lock that Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch have secured the other three starring roles.
On Friday it was also reported that director Justin Lin is in talks to helm a couple episodes of the second season since Cary Fukunaga, who directed all of the first season, is supposedly not returning at all.
With little in the way of confirmed information for the second season, at the moment it is known that True Detective is slated to return in summer 2015, will be set in California and HBO programming director Michael Lombardo has said that while the show will still be dark, it just won't be as dark as the freshman season.
"It's still dark," Lombardo commented at the Edinburgh TV Festival in August. "It's not as dark, but it's not a light ride."
