Television executive Michael Wright has been tapped to be the next chief of Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks Studios, it was announced Thursday.
He will replace Stacey Snider who has been the DreamWorks head since 2006 alongside Spielberg but planned to likely depart for a possible senior exec position at 20th Century Fox, New York Times reports. She will remain a partner in the live-action movie studio, though.
Wright (middle), who has limited movie experience, will take over the role in January. He is "a talented executive who creative vision, leadership and passion are a perfect fit for our company," Spielberg said in a statement.
Spielberg and Wright have worked together before on a few television projects, including Falling Skies and Into the West, notes TheWrap. The TV exec will not be involved in DreamWorks Amblin TV operations like previously thought.
Wright has previously been the programming president for TBS, TNT and TCM during his career. He landed the DreamWorks position that many thought would go to production president Holly Bario, who it has been said will remain at the company.
Spielberg also spoke of Snider and their long partnership. She "has been an important part of my life for two decades and I want to acknowledge her many accomplishments at the company as well as her friendship and counsel which has been so important to me."
