Andres Muschietti, who directed the horror film Mama, has been tapped to helm the feature film adaptation of Shadow of the Colossus.
The film will be an adaptation of the popular Playstation 2 game by Fumito Ueda and developer Team Ico about a boy named Wander who must slay 16 different colossi roaming a vast forbidden land in the hopes of saving his love.
Michael De Luca (right) and Andrea Giannetti are overseeing the project for Sony Pictures, Variety reports. The director's wife, Barbara Muschietti, and Kevin Misher will produce.
"We knew we had our director once we heard Andy's take on the material," De Luca said. "It was genius."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Seth Lochhead was tapped to pen the script. Justin Marks originally wrote the script two years ago when Josh Trank was attached to direct.
Shadow of the Colossus has sold more than 2.7 million copies worldwide and was named best game during the 6th annual Game Developer's Choice Awards.
