Julia Roberts has been tapped for the female lead role in the upcoming Hollywood remake of the Argentine thriller The Secret In Their Eyes.
Roberts is set to play the friend and former partner of a former FBI agent who is unable to get over his daughter's murder, Deadline is exclusively reporting.
Roberts will star alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor and Gwyneth Paltrow, in the film, which is based off the original 2009 Argentine film which won a best foreign-language Oscar, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Billy Ray will direct based off his own script for the project.
Ray wanted Roberts in the film so badly that he re-wrote one of the lead roles just for her. Filming is set to begin in October in Los Angeles instead of the originally planned Boston.
The Academy Award-winning original film followed a retired attorney who struggles with an unsolved case and unrequited love who looks for closure while writing a book.
