Jake Gyllenhaal admitted at the Toronto Film Festival premiere of his new movie Nightcrawler that his mother was a little worried about his dramatic weight loss for the role.
At the premiere on Friday night, the actor was stopped by E! News and asked what his mother thought and he admitted that somehow no one else had asked that yet.
"You're the first person to ask that question," Gyllenhaal replied. "I'd say my mother was worried." He explained that she wanted to just make sure he was careful about losing weight for the role.
"She knows that I'm a big boy and I could handle myself and that I would stay within the realm of being safe, but yes, she was worried," he added. "She'd be like, 'You're cranky--eat something."
Gyllenhaal's mother wasn't the only one a little worried about the thinning actor. His co-star Rene Russo, who is also married to Nightcrawler director Dan Gilroy admitted while she was impressed by what he did, "I actually was worried."
Back in August, it was announced that the release date for Nightcrawler would be pushed back two weeks from Oct. 17 to Oct. 31. The delay was likely an attempt to avoid opening alongside Brad Pitt's war film Fury.
The film follows Gyllenhaal as a man determined to become a late-night crime reporter and soon finds himself doing whatever it takes to be the first one to get a scoop.
