Georgia father who left 22-month-old in hot car indicted for murder

A grand jury indicted the Georgia father who allegedly left his son to die in a hot car on murder charges Thursday.

Justin Ross Harris has been charged with a total of eight counts, including malice murder, two counts of felony murder, cruelty to children in the first degree and second degree and criminal attempt to commit felony exploitation of children, WXIA-TV reports.

The 33-year-old was denied bond, with a judge saying he would have to stand trial for the eight charges, which also included two counts of dissemination of harmful material to minors. He has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges.

Harris left his song in the car seat of his SUV while he went to work back in June. He has claimed that he forgot to drop his child off at daycare and didn't realize he was still in the car that sat baking in the sun for an entire day.

The father called police late in the afternoon and the young child was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, police discovered that he had been sexting with other women while his son was in the car in 88 degree weather.

On top of that, both Harris and his wife had insurance policies out on their son and had looked up hot-car deaths prior to their son's tragic death.
