Fox picks up television sequel to Steven Spielberg's 'Minority Report'

Fox snagged the television sequel to Steven Spielberg's Minority Report, it was learned Monday.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network picked up the series, which comes with a significant put-pilot commitment.

The sequel to the 2002 film will pick up 10 years after the Tom Cruise, Colin Farrell and Samantha Morton film took place. The series will follow a female detective, haunted by her past, who runs into one of the three Precogs who was released at the end of the first film. He struggles to deal with continued visions of the future.

The follow-up to the film based upon Philip K. Dick's short story is being produced by Amblin Television, Paramount Television and 20th Century Fox. Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank are on board to executive produce.

As previously reported, Godzilla scribe Max Borenstein was tapped to write the script.

It isn't known if Spielberg is still involved in the project beyond his company, Amblin producing the series. No casting announcements have been made, but in August it was rumored that the director hoped that a big star would topline the sequel.

Minority Report grossed $358.3 million at the worldwide box office 12 years ago.
