Evacuations issued as wildfire near Yosemite threatens 700 homes

Hundreds were ordered to evacuate as a wildfire on the edge of Yosemite National Park continues to threaten nearly 700 homes and several businesses.

Those living near Ponderosa Basin were given evacuation orders with fire crews only able to contain 10 percent of the wildfire, which has burned at least 300 acres in Mariposa County, as of Friday afternoon, CBS San Francisco reports. It is currently about 25 percent contained as of Saturday morning.

So far only one minor injury has been reported due to the blaze, Cal Fire has said, but no further information was provided.

Evacuation orders were issued for 300 Oakhurst residents when a second wildfire started up nearby, but was later canceled as fire crews quickly handled the smaller blaze.

According to The Associated Press, the first wildfire has shut down some of state Route 49 into Yosemite park, with the fire only 15 miles southwest.

Fire crews continue to also deal with a northern California wildfire, which is only 25 percent contained about four weeks. The blaze has burned nearly 130 square miles and has also forced some evacuations.
