DNA tests identify 'Jack the Ripper'

One of the world's greatest and oldest mysteries has been solved. Famed serial killer Jack the Ripper has finally been linked by DNA tests to a Polish immigrant to England named Aaron Kosminski.

According to Australian publication The Advertiser, Kosminski was a hairdresser in Poland who emigrated from Poland to England with his family in 1881. When fear of Jack the Ripper was at its peak, Kosminski was committed to a mental asylum. Kosminski was a suspect in the murders and was even noted by a police officer at the time of the original murders.

The Mail on Sunday reports that other suspects in the killings had included Queen Victoria's grandson Prince Albert Victor and former English Prime Minister William Gladstone. Kominski was finally confirmed as the suspect after DNA from the shawl of one of Jack the Ripper's last victims Catherine Eddowes was found to match the victim and her killer. The shawl was purchased in an auction by businessman Russell Edwards who enlisted Dr. Jari Louhelainen to extract DNA from the shawl.
