Celebrity Squares returns once again to the United Kingdom with a new host at its helm, Warwick Davis.
Celebrity Squares, based off Hollywood Squares, allows two contestants to play tic-tac-toe with the help of some of their favorite celebrities. Nine cubicles are stacked on top of each other in a 3 x 3 formation and inside each cube is a celebrity eager to answer trivia questions. After a celebrity is asked a question, the contestants win each square by predicting if the celebrity within the square answered correctly.
Davis, known for starring in film franchises including Star Wars and Harry Potter, is thrilled to be the new host of the revived game show.
"I grew up watching this show. My goal is to have a chat show, so Celebrity Squares allows me to do that with nine celebrities each week," Davis told Metro in an interview.
Davis also starred in HBO's Life's Too Short alongside British comic geniuses, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
Davis and Gervais are friends outside of work but when asked if he would ever invite Gervais to appear on the show, Davis told RadioTimes, “At the end of the day I’ve never seen Ricky do a panel show so I can’t, I just can’t. He has his own principles and whoever it is I don’t think he’s going to say, ‘yeah all right, just for you, I’ll come and do it.’”
Davis went on to say that he would still consider inviting Karl Pilkington to the show, who also starred alongside Gervais and Merchant in An Idiot Abroad.
Celebrity Squares originally premiered in 1975 and returns tonight, 39 years later, on ITV.
