Carey Mulligan and Bill Nighy heading to Broadway for 'Skylight'

The revival of David Hare's Skylight is heading to Broadway from London with Carey Mulligan and Bill Nighy in tow.

The revival did extremely well overseas, but now it is being brought to Broadway at the Golden Theater starting March 16, The New York Times reports. Matthew Beard also appears in the play as Nighy's character's son.

Tony Award winner Stephen Daldry is on board to direct Skylight, which is about a recently widowed restaurateur who visits his former lover, an English school teacher who works at an inner-city high school.

According to The Associated Press, Skylight has been so popular that a performance was filmed and will air in some movie theaters starting Oct. 23.

Love Actually star Nighy was happy to snag the role of Tom after admitting he has been a fan of the play for 20 years. "It's a great role, and to be honest there aren't that many plays that I want to do, not many parts of this scale for a man of my age."

He explained he prefers contemporary works to classical plays so he is glad this one came along as he had become "restless" and wanted to return to the stage. He appeared in The Vertical Hour on Broadway back in 2007.
