Unarmed, African-American teen’s death by police causes vandalism and looting

Anger at the local police over the death of a young, unarmed man caused people from Ferguson, MI to loot and vandalize the area on Sunday evening.

On August 9, African American 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot and killed by a police officer. According to CBS News, several shot were fired after a struggle began between the officer, Brown and another man.

St. Louis police are now investigating the case. In a Facebook post they stated, “There is no bias or favoritism applied as we are an outside agency and were not involved.”

However, the community of Ferguson expressed their outrage over the weekend. This began with marches and heightened after Brown’s vigil with cars being broken into, shops looted and acts of violence.

The NPR reported that protesters chanted, “Hands up, don’t shoot!” as well as carrying signs like Louis Head, Brown’s stepfather, reading messages like “Ferguson police just executed my unarmed son.”

Many have compared this case to Trayvon Martin’s death, and the same lawyer who worked on Martin’s case will represent Brown’s family, according to the Daily Mail.
Hope that this case might change racial profiling is mixed with the anger of the Ferguson citizens.
