TV Ratings: NFL preseason preemptions propel CBS to win

CBS easily topped Thursday night in the ratings thanks to NFL preseason preemptions, with the race among the top four networks not even particularly close.

Of course there will be an adjustment to numbers, but for the moment, fast national ratings boosted CBS up to a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.125 million viewers. Thanks to football, Big Bother improved to a 2.5 rating, HitFix reports.

The Eye network was not the only one to see improved ratings due to football, though no one else got as big a bump. Fox pulled in a 1.3 rating in the demo and 4.73 million viewers, which is strong considering the network usually sags on Thursday nights, especially when airing all encores.

Just a hair behind Fox in the 18-49 demo was NBC with a 1.2 rating, but the network pulled in the stronger overall audience with 4.87 million viewers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, an hour of Welcome to Sweden received a big boost on the night improving to a 1.2 rating between the two episodes. That's a nice jump considering the freshman comedy was averaging only a 0.7 rating before then.

ABC brought up the rear with a 1.0 rating in the advertiser important demo and 4 million viewers. A two-hour showing of forgettable reality competition The Quest even improved on the night to a 0.9 rating. World's Wildest Commercials followed and drew a 1.1 demo rating.
