This week’s column is filled with laughs and tears and excitement. Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb has Ben Stiller’s character, Larry, fighting to save the magic that changed his life, Mad Max: Fury Road has the infamous Mad Max meeting a woman who wants to cross the barren wilderness and The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel expands on the lives of some of the original characters with some new additions as Sonny has his eye on a promising new property. Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb will allow audiences to get a final glimpse of Robin Williams as he completed the movie shortly before his death. The laughs he is sure to invoke will remind moviegoers of his gift for comedy and to say a proper goodbye. In addition, all three of these films have some serious star power behind them and are all sequels and/or extensions of their franchises.
Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb is the third and final installment of this wildly successful family comedy movie franchise. This time, Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) leaves New York and heads to London on a quest to save the magical powers of The Tablet of Ahkmenrah. Co-starring the late Robin Williams in one of his final performances before his death, Rebel Wilson, Owen Wilson, Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Ben Kingsley, Ricky Gervais and Rachael Harris, the trailer shows Larry realizing that the tablet’s magic is dying so he ventures to London to learn its origins and save his friends. It opens in theaters on Friday, December 19.
Mad Max: Fury Road is the fourth and newest film in this popular movie franchise in almost 30 years. This time, Tom Hardy is taking over the title role of "Mad" Max Rockatansky, originally played by Mel Gibson. Co-starring Charlize Theron and X-Men: Days of Future Past’s Nicholas Hoult, this plot still has Max living in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, but this time he aids a woman, Imperator Furiosa (Theron) in her quest to cross the desolate desert as he fights off numerous evil enemies. Shot in Namibia, a country in Southern Africa, the trailer displays fiery explosions, edge-of-your-seat chases, spectacular crashes, and Max fighting against those trying to kill him. It opens in theaters on Friday, May 15, 2015.
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is a sequel to the surprise original 2011 smash. Most of the cast from the original film returns including Dame Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, Celia Imrie, Penelope Wilton, Ronald Pickup, Tina Desae, Lillete Dubey, Diana Hardcastle and Dev Patel. In addition some new cast members include Richard Gere and David Strathairn. This go around, Sonny (Patel) has is eye on a new property given there is only one remaining vacancy at the original hotel with two new possible guests arriving. Shot in India, the trailer showcases the country’s beauty as well as going deeper into the lives and relationships of the original characters and how the new characters fit into their lives at the hotel. It opens in theaters on Friday, March 6, 2015.
