The Texas A&M Aggies have announced that quarterback Kenny Hill will be the starter for the team’s first game against South Carolina on Aug. 28.
Hill, a sophomore, won the starting job over true freshman Kyle Allen. Last season, Hill appeared in four games and completed 16 passes for 183 yards and one touchdown, according to ESPN.
Allen was the top rated quarterback coming out of high school last season. He enrolled in the school in January and has been practicing with the team since then, according to Texas A&M.
Head coach Kevin Sumlin told Texas A&M that either quarterback could have won the starting spot.
“The competition was close and that competition will continue to help us improve,” Sumlin said. “I have talked to both quarterbacks as well as the team and we will prepare with Kenny getting the first-team reps.”
Hill come’s from Southlake Carroll in Texas. He won the Gatorade Texas Player of the Year his senior season and led his team to the Texas 5A state championship during his junior season. In his final two years in high school, he threw for 5,305 yards and 45 touchdowns, along with 2,305 rushing yards and 46 rushing touchdowns.
