Syfy cancels 'The Wil Wheaton Project' due to low ratings

The Syfy network has canceled Wil Wheaton's talk show The Wil Wheaton Project due to low ratings.

The actor made the announcement on his website, noting that he was walking along a beach when he got a call from Syfy and immediately knew what it meant.

"'I have [Syfy Network Executive] for you,' a disinterested assistant said. 'Okay,' I said. The line fell silent and I knew that my work with Syfy was over."

Wheaton wrote that executives in New York felt that the Project didn't have "enough viewers to justify more episodes," and just like that the former Star Trek: The Next Generation actor's foray into the talk show sphere was over.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network premiered the 12-episode show back in May and feature Wheaton discussing sci-fi, television, geeky news and more.

It isn't exactly known how low the ratings were, but Wheaton noted in his blog that the show had similar ratings to E!'s long-running host show The Soup, but felt that Syfy never promoted his show enough to give it a chance to succeed.

Still, Wheaton notes he enjoyed his time working on the show and is simply disappointed he won't get to work with his writers again on The Wil Wheaton Project.
