Indiana Pacers star Paul George may miss the entire 2014-15 NBA season due to his gruesome leg injury. George fractured his right tibia-fibula on Friday night during a scrimmage for Team USA.
The two-time NBA All-Star had surgery on Saturday morning, and now the long rehab process begins.
Dr. James Gladstone, the co-chief of sports medicine at Icahn School at Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, stated recovery from an injury such this typically takes between nine and 12 months, reports The Associated Press.
Dr. Patrick Kersey, physician at St. Vincent Sports Performance in Indianapolis, claims that it will likely take George 18 months to return the shape he was in before the injury. Kersey has experience treating athletes with injuries similar to George’s, as he treated Louisville’s Kevin Ware.
Ware suffered a similar injury to George’s in March 2013 during an Elite Eight game during the NCAA Tournament. He has since transferred to Georgia State, which is where he was when he watched George go down on Friday.
“I really couldn’t believe it happened when I saw it,” Ware told FoxSports.com . “All the thoughts and memories came back to my head. As soon as it happened, it was like déjà vu.
“This is definitely the hardest he’ll have to work in his life. It’s going to take a lot of time. Just stay positive.”
