LSU safety Jalen Mills will be charges with simple assault, instead of a felony second degree battery charge, after an altercation in June with a woman.
Head coach Les Miles suspended him indefinitely after he was arrested, according to The Advocate.
East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore told WWLTV.com that he reduced the charges because he could not prove any intent to cause injury to the woman.
If coach Miles acts like he did following the 2011 arrest of quarterback Jordan Jefferson on battery charges that were reduced to simple assault, then Jalen Mills could be reinstated immediately.
Being convicted of simple assault can result in a fine maximum fine of $1,000 or six months in prison.
Mills has started every game in his two-year career at LSU. He has 124 total tackles and 5 interceptions in 26 games, according to LSU.
Mills was moved to safety after starting his first 25 games of his career at corner back. MIlls was excepted to start at safety this season.
