Jeff Bridges comments on Robin Williams' death at the world premiere of 'The Giver'

Jeff Bridges expressed his grief over the loss of Robin Williams at the New York premiere of The Giver.

Bridges will be appearing alongside Meryl Streep, Brenton Thwaites, Alexander Skarsgard, Katie Holmes, Odeya Rush, Cameron Monaghan, and Taylor Swift in the Giver, a science-fiction drama that is based off of the best-selling book by Lois Lowry.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the news of Robin Williams’ death broke just an hour before The Giver had it’s world premiere at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City.

Vanity Fair reports that Jeff Bridges addressed the audience at the premiere in honor of his former The Fisher King costar, saying, “[tonight is] wonderful, but like many elements in life, there is an underside, losing a dear, dear friend, Robin Williams. Such a brilliant human being. Gosh, I know we all miss him, and my heart goes out to his family.”

Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein, who worked with Williams on Good Will Hunting, also commented on the actor’s tragic death, admitting he knows that Williams would want the show to go on.

“I made a movie with Robin called Good Will Hunting, which he won the Oscar for,” Weinstein added. “And I promise you, if he were onstage, he’d want the party to continue. And continue, and continue. And he is well missed, and he is well loved, and whatever the circumstances were, he was a giant in our industry, and even more importantly, a great man. So enjoy the movie tonight, and enjoy the festivities.”

The Weinstein Company’s The Giver premieres this Friday, Aug. 13.
