Jada Pinkett Smith responds to Willow Smith’s controversial photo, admitting she prefers for her children to take responsibility for their own actions.
Willow, 13, was recently featured with a shirtless Moises Arias (Hannah Montana) in a controversial Instagram photo, which hasdrawn the attention of Child Protective Services and put the "Whip My Hair" singer's parents under a large amount of criticism.
However, Willow’s mother recently sat down to discuss her children, admitting she doesn’t feel as though she can “fix” her children’s mistakes.
"I want my kids to be happy and I want them to be themselves,” she revealed to Net-A-Porter. “I was saying to a friend the other day, ‘Remember, our kids are not us.' They're not. Sometimes we're trying to fix things that happened to us or projecting [onto them], and that's a terrible, terrible trap."
Men In Black star Will Smith also confirmed that the couple does not place emphasis on punishing their children.
“We don’t do punishment. The way that we deal with our kids is, they are responsible for their lives,” Smith told Metro. “Our concept is, as young as possible, give them as much control over their lives as possible and the concept of punishment, our experience has been — it has a little too much of a negative quality. So when they do things — and you know, Jaden, he’s done things — you can do anything you want as long as you can explain to me why that was the right thing to do for your life.”
Do you think this is a beneficial parenting style?
