Helen Mirren is bringing her acclaimed portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II to the other side of the Atlantic this winter. Mirren will once again star in The Audience by Peter Morgan when a production opens on Broadway in February.
Mirren won an Olivier award for her portrayal of the Queen, who holds fictional meetings with her prime ministers in the play. As The New York Times reports, the meetings will now take place at the Schoenfeld Theater, beginning on Feb. 17. The official opening is on March 8 and it is scheduled to continue through June 28.
Matthew Byam Shaw, Robert Fox, and Andy Harries produced the play. Stephen Daldry is directing, notes The Wall Street Journal.
Morgan wrote Frost/Nixon and also penned The Queen, the film that earned Mirren an Oscar for playing Queen Elizabeth.
In other Mirren news, she was on the red carpet Monday night at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York for The Hundred-Foot Journey. The film was produced by Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg. According to JustJared, Mirren also did appearances on The Tonight Show and Good Morning America to promote the movie. The Lasse Hallström-directed movie opens on Friday.
