'Guardians of the Galaxy' grosses $37.8 million

Box office film Guardians of the Galaxy grossed over $38.4 million on Friday in the form of ticket receipts.

According to L.A. Times, the movie continued its successful streak during the opening weekend after grossing over $11 million on Friday. Analysts predicted that the movie could gross between $70 to $75 million. Now the prediction seems to exceed that value, and it comes up between $90 to $100 million.
The film was directed by James Gunn and the film features Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel and Zoe Saldana. The film is Disney’s latest release produced by Marvel Studios, the same studio that left behind blockbuster hit movies such as Iron Man, The Avengers and Captain America.

The film cost $170 million to produces and opened in over 4,000 theatres making the film a huge success. The ratings on Rotten Tomatoes averaged to 92%. As of Saturday, 96% of audiences wanted to watch Guardians of the Galaxy.

Forbes noted that with the inclusion of $11.2 million worth of Thursday’s previews, the film earned $26.6 million during regular Friday business hours. The old record for an August opening weekend was the movie The Bourne Ultimatum, which earned $69 million in the year 2007. Gunn’s film is expected to cross this on the second day of the film’s release.
Overall, Guardians of the Galaxy earned 29% of its Friday revenue on Thursday, exceeding the 28% earned by Marvel’s Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
