Giants' Matt Cain to have season-ending surgery

This season has been tough for San Francisco Giants’ starting pitcher Matt Cain. Cain will have season-ending elbow surgery on Monday.
The procedure will remove bone chips and spurs in his throwing elbow. Due to this injury, he was placed on the disabled list on July 21 with elbow soreness, according to SI.com .
"It's been frustrating for Matt," manager Bruce Bochy said. "He's been battling this for a while. It's time. He could keep trying to push it, but it's inevitable, it looks like. So we're going to have this done and have him ready for Spring Training."
A definitive timetable for Cain’s return is unknown at this point and will not be solidified until after the surgery is performed. It has been said that his recovery may take three months, reports MLB.com .
This season, he has struggled, posting a 2-7 record with 4.18 ERA in 15 starts.
However, prior to 2014, he has proven to be very reliable and durable. The three-time All-Star has thrown at least 200 innings every year from 2007 to 2012. In every season of his career, he has made at least 30 starts.
