Dustin Johnson taking leave of absence from golf

Professional golfer Dustin Johnson announced that he will be taking a leave of absence from the PGA Tour, effective immediately.
In his announcement, he claimed that the reason for the time off is to repair his mental health. This news comes days after he withdrew from the WBC-Bridgestone Invitational for personal reasons.
“I will use this time to seek professional help for personal challenges I have faced,” Johnson said in his statement, reports CNN. "By committing the time and resources necessary to improve my mental health, physical well-being and emotional foundation, I am confident that I will be better equipped to fulfill my potential and become a consistent champion."
By taking this time away from the game, the 30-year-old will miss the PGA Championship (the year’s final major) and the Ryder Cup. He currently ranks fifth in the Ryder Cup standings and would likely have been selected to be on the team.
Johnson, who is ranked No. 16 in the world rankings, finished in 12th place at the Open Championship last month.
Johnson has been involved in a highly publicized relationship with Paulina Gretzky (the daughter of NHL legend Wayne Gretzky).
While some project that their relationship could be the reason for his departure from golf, another factor could be that Johnson has been linked to drugs. Last year, in a lawsuit against the PGA, Vijay Singh claimed that Johnson is culpable of violating the tour’s drug policy, according to Sporting News.
