New Orleans Saints fans got a bit of a scare when they heard that star quarterback Drew Brees suffered an oblique injury that forced him to miss Saturday’s scrimmage. Fortunately he is listed as day-to-day, and it appears as though he will not miss any significant time.
Brees strained his left oblique during practice on Friday, and the team will monitor him to determine when he will participate in practice again, reports CBS Sports .
With Brees unable to participate in Saturday’s scrimmage, backups Luke McCown and Ryan Griffin split the duty at quarterback. Griffin fared better, but head coach Sean Payton shied away from picking one of them to be the No. 2 quarterback, according to NOLA.com.
The Saints do not have practice on Sunday and will return to the field on Monday.
Last season, the Saints went 11-5 and advanced to the Divisional Round of the playoffs after claiming the franchise’s first road playoff victory.
New Orleans opens up the 2014 season on the road on Sept. 7 visiting the Atlanta Falcons. The Saints’ home-opener is week three against the Minnesota Vikings.
