Disney renews 'Girl Meets World' for a second season

The Disney Channel show Girl Meets World, a spin-off of the popular 90s show Boy Meets World, has been renewed for a second season.

The show, which premiered this summer, focuses on the antics of Riley, the daughter of Boy Meets World characters Cory and Topanga, and her best friend Maya as they begin middle school. Along with the presence of Cory and Topanga, played by Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, season 1 of Girl Meets World features guest appearances of other Boy Meets World characters like Mr. Feeney and Mingus as reported by USA Today.

Girl Meets World’s combination of the old and new seems to be a perfect combination for a show that reaches multiple generations, appealing to those who loved Boy Meets World and those who are in junior high themselves. This accessibility is sure to be a large cause of the show’s success and its renewal.

Adam Bonnett, who is executive Vice-President of original programming for Disney Channels Worldwide stated according to Variety that, “The series swiftly became a favorite of kids and their parents, many of whom grew up with ‘Boy Meets World.' We’re looking forward to watching Riley Matthews and Maya Hart make the world their own, as Cory and Topanga teach them life lessons along the way.”

Season 2 is scheduled to begin production in November.
