Brooks Wheelan isn't too surprised or down that he was fired from Saturday Night Live and is already returning to standup.
As previously reported, Wheelan was fired in mid-July from the late-night sketch show after only one season. He was the first to reveal the news, taking to Twitter to let fans know he wouldn't be returning.
Still it wasn't too surprising he was let go after only one season as it was his first real time doing comedy that wasn't simply standup. He even joked that he was expecting it.
"As soon as I got hired I was like, 'Well, I'm gonna get fired,'" he said while speaking with TheWrap. "I was totally mentally prepared to get fired. So when I did get fired, I was like, 'Yeah, that adds up.'"
Wheelan quipped that he was glad no one yelled at him this time, like a previous job at a heart valve company. "It's nice to get fired from a job and not get yelled at. Nobody's yelled at me over at 'SNL.'"
He admits working on SNL, even for one season was fulfilling a dream and that he's handled his firing the same way he does everything else negative; by "making a joke of it. It's disarming and makes me feel better."
Wheelan has quickly returned to standup and is set to appear in Las Vegas for Largo on Wednesday, with Jay Mohr, Jerrod Carmichael and Judd Apatow. He calls it one stop on his "Brooks Wheelan Falls Back on Standup Comedy Sorta Tour."
