Ariana Grande discusses her grammatically incorrect lyrics in 'Break Free'

“Break Free” singer Ariana Grande addresses issues revolving around the grammatically incorrect lyrics to her hit song, claiming she tried to get the lyrics changed before they started recording.

With lyrics like “I only wanna die alive,” “now that I’ve become who I really are,” and “‘cause I can’t resist it no more,” “Break Free,” which was the follow up song to Grande’s previous hit, “Problem,” received a lot of attention regarding the confusing lyrics rather than focusing on the Victorious actress’ decision to feature the EDM DJ, Zedd.

However, it appears as though Grande knew about the grammatically incorrect lyrics and consistently countered with her producer, Max Martin, to change them.

“I fought him on it the whole time,” Grande admitted to Time. “I am not going to sing a grammatically incorrect lyric, help me, God!’ Max was like, ‘It’s funny — just do it!’ I know it’s funny and silly, but grammatically incorrect things make me cringe sometimes.”

Grande, who recently released a teaser to her new song, “Love Me Harder,” will be releasing her second studio album, My Everything, on Aug. 25, 2014.
