Wrigley Field, home to the Chicago Cubs, has gotten the approval from the Chicago city landmarks commission to renovate the stadium.
The renovation would cost $575 million and would include two video scoreboards, five outfield advertising signs, expanded bleachers and bullpens beneath the bleachers, according to the AP.
According to the USA Today, there is some outcry over the possible renovation. The owners of the rooftop seating across the street from Wrigley Field say that the renovation would put them out of business.
The rooftop owners say the renovation would be in clear violation of their 20-year contract with the Cubs allowing seating outside the stadium on the roofs, according to Chicago Sun-Times.
Some citizens of Chicago say that the proposed plan would harm the history of Wrigley Field.
“The proposed signs will forever destroy the landmark qualities of Wrigley Field,” resident Allan Mellis told USA Today.
Cubs owner Tom Ricketts says that the changes will add revenue that the Cubs need to become competitive in baseball.
The Cubs have lost 90 games or more three years in a row and they are on pace to lose 90 again this season.
