There have been 2,525 home runs hit in the Major Leagues so far this season. The Toronto Blue Jays lead all teams with 116 round-trippers, while the Colorado Rockies lead the National League with 112 long balls. Therefore, it is only fitting that a Blue Jay and a Rockie are the two captains for this year’s Home Run Derby. These two sluggers are outfielder Jose Bautista from Toronto and Troy Tulowitzki from Colorado. Tulowitzki has hit 21 home runs this year, and Bautista has gone yard 17 times. The Home Run Derby is part of the All-Star Game festivities, when everyone takes a break from the hectic and long season to enjoy the stars display their talents. Tulowitzki’s National League team in the Home Run Derby consists of Todd Frazier (third baseman, Cincinnati Reds), Justin Morneau (first baseman, Colorado Rockies), Yasiel Puig (outfielder, Los Angeles Dodgers) and Giancarlo Stanton (outfielder, Miami Marlins). For the American League, Bautista is joined by Josh Donaldson (third baseman, Oakland A’s), Brian Dozier (second baseman, Minnesota Twins), Adam Jones (outfielder, Baltimore Orioles) and defending Home Run Derby champion Yoenis Cespedes (outfielder, Oakland A’s). So, since home runs are going to be in the forefront of everyone’s mind on Monday as these 10 sluggers take the stage for the Home Run Derby, here is a list of the top 10 home run hitters so far this season.
