Two people in New York City were arrested for operating a drone over the George Washington Bridge.
The drone was dangerously close to the bridge and came 800 feet within a police helicopter. The pilot of the helicopter saw the small drone. He notified the 34th precinct, and authorities looked into the situation. The drone was reported when it landed on a parked vehicle.
"It was traced to a window that it was returned to, and an individual received a summons there for violation of that airspace regulation," NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence John Miller said, according to CBSNews.
Police found two private citizens who will face reckless endangerment charges. Both Wilkins Mendoza and Remy Castro were arrested, according to the Associated Press.
Police found the two drones and the remote controls that were operating the devices. The standard of civilian drones has been called into question. The Federal Aviation Administration has not set standards for certifying the safety of civilian drones. Miller said that as drones become more affordable, it is likely that more people would attempt to purchase them. The drone was taking photos for a commercial.
