Peyton Manning named top NFL player

Peyton Manning has often been in the discussion of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. Now, the Denver Broncos quarterback can say that he has been granted the title of the top player in the NFL, as voted on by his peers.
The NFL Network’s countdown of the 100 best players in the game led up to Manning being named No. 1. Last year, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was selected as the best player.
“I am very humbled,” Manning said, reports The Denver Post.
Last season, Manning set the NFL mark with 55 touchdowns. He narrowly topped Drew Brees’ record of most passing years in a season by throwing for 5,477 yards (one more than Brees did in 2011). He also had the most four-touchdown games in NFL history with nine.
Manning led the Broncos’ offensive to a slew of NFL records. They became the first team in history to score more than 600 points (finishing with 606). They had the most players outside of quarterback record at least 10 touchdowns. The previous record was three; they had five. Denver also had the most first downs through the air of any team in history (293).
The Broncos became the first team since 1969 to score 50 points in three games in a season, according to milehighreport.com.
