Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Josh Beckett has been placed on the disabled list with a left hip injury.
According to ESPN, Beckett has had pain in his hip for a couple of weeks. While pitching on Sunday versus Colorado he felt a sudden pain in his leg after running the bases.
With the All-Star break coming up, Beckett may only miss on start.
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly told reporters that it has been harder for Beckett to make each start and that the team had hoped to get more rest for him, according to MLB.com.
After missing most of last season, Beckett is 6-5 in 17 starts with a 2.26 ERA this year. He threw a no-hitter against the Philadelphia Phillies on May 25.
Mattingly also told reporters that Beckett’s scheduled start on Saturday could by pitched by Paul Mahlom or Red Patterson.
Mahlom has more MLB experience that Patterson. He is 1-4 with a 5.50 ERA this season. Patterson has started once for Dodgers this year, lastly only 4 2/3 innings.
The Dodgers have recalled Pedro Baez from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Beckett’s roster spot.
