Last offseason, Kendrys Morales turned down a one-year, $14 million deal to stay with the Seattle Mariners and entered free agency, eventually ending up with the Minnesota Twins. Well, Morales is back in Seattle after the two teams pulled off a trade on Thursday.
Morales, who signed with the Twins on June 8, has hit .234 and one home run in 39 games this season. His deal is valued at $7.4 million, which is prorated to $12 million for a full season, reports ESPN.com .
Last season (with the Mariners), Morales led the team with 167 hits, 34 doubles, 80 RBI and a .277 batting average.
The Mariners play at Safeco Field, which is one of the least friendly ballparks to hitters. In fact, this season, Seattle has struggled hitting at home this season, ranking second to last in the American League in team batting average (.236) and team slugging percentage (.367), according to MLB.com .
The Angels are sending relief pitcher Stephen Pryor to the Twins. Pryor has pitched 32 innings in the Major Leagues for the Mariners, recording 35 strikeouts and a 2.81 ERA. The 25-year-old was selected in the fifth round of the 2010 draft.
