Christian Ponder names baby girl after Florida State coach Bobby Bowden

College football coaches have a tremendous impact on their players. The best coaches are those who influence their players so much that the players would do anything to honor them. One special way to do this is to name one’s child after the coach. That is exactly what Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder did.
Ponder, along with his wife Samantha, named their newly born baby girl Bowden Sainte-Claire Ponder. The name Bowden is the surname of Christian’s coach in college at Florida State (Bobby Bowden), reports USA Today .
Bowden, who spent most of his 44 seasons coaching with the Seminoles, is the all-time winningest coach in major college football. He won a total of 377 games, 54 more than second place (Bear Bryant), according to CBS Sports .
Ponder played under Bowden for three seasons before the legendary coach retired. Ponder phoned Bowden to tell him of the name.
The middle name of Bowden Ponder is the same as her mother’s.
Samantha is a college football reporter for ESPN.
